Mutabazi tips EACO on capacity development
The Executive Director of UCC, Mr. Godfrey Mutabazi, recently advised the East African Communications Organisation (EACO) to always use coaching and mentoring to develop human resources so as to leverage socio-economic development of the East African region.
“Human resources are the greatest asset of an organisation, for they provide the basis for the present and the future. On the other hand, mentoring and coaching are critical ingredients in developing our human resources, he said, adding, “We should focus on dealing with human resources to link our organisation targets with productivity and utilising the best potential.
Mutabazi, who was opening of an EACO regional workshop on Coaching and Mentoring at the Golf Course Hotel on August 6, 2013, said coaching and mentoring have many advantages. “Coaching and mentoring lead to increased job satisfaction; enhance skill and professional development; improve problem analysis and strategic thinking; and develop self-esteem.
Based in Kigali, Rwanda, EACO is the regional body that brings together Regulatory, Postal, Telecommunications and Broadcasting organisations in East African Community. The broad objective of EACO is to harmonise policies of the communications sector in East Africa which will promote further cooperation and integration of the five-member states of the EAC.
Originally known as the East Africa Regulatory, Postal and Telecommunications Organisation (EARPTO), EACO is an example of a public, private partnership with a sole aim of improving access to affordable and quality communication services to the people of East Africa.
The four-day event attracted at least 25 human resources personnel from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania.
