In October 2010, it was noted that there was a need to strengthen communications research particularly of locally relevant solutions through discipline-specific conference series in communications. Accordingly, the National Conference on Communications (NCC) was established by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering – Makerere University with the aim of:
- providing an avenue to build capacity and strengthen the academic and industry communities in communications,
- Promoting “local” research and development (R&D) into communication technology advances within the country, and
- fostering a synergistic relationship amongst stakeholders in the sector such as the academia, government and industry
The conference offers students, researchers, application developers, and practitioners a platform to identify new research challenges, share solutions and discuss issues relevant to the communications sector of developing countries such as Uganda.
